East Valley commute times

“About 75 percent of Arizona workers age 16 and older drive to work alone, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released today.
Gilbert has the highest percentage of lone commuters among East Valley cities and the lowest percentage who walk to work or use mass transit.”;
“Gilbert workers also face the longest commute times, with an average one-way trip of 29 minutes.”
“‘A lot of people who live in Gilbert don’t work in Gilbert,’ Gilbert Mayor Steve Berman said.”
“He also said Gilbert residents earn more money than many of their East Valley neighbors and can afford to drive their own vehicles to work.”
“‘Last time I checked, Gilbert has the second highest per capita income in the state of Arizona, second only to Paradise Valley,’ Berman said.”
“About 79 percent of Gilbert workers older than16 drive alone to work. Tempe is next at 78 percent, followed by Scottsdale at 77 percent.”
“According to the census data, about 7 percent of Arizona workers have a travel time of one hour or more getting to work.”
“After Gilbert, Mesa workers have the worst commuting conditions with an average drive time of 27 minutes to work.”
“Chandler workers see an average 26 minutes of driving, Scottsdale workers see an average 22 minutes of driving, and Tempe workers drive for 21 minutes.”
“Mesa workers are the most likely to car pool among major East Valley cities, and Scottsdale workers are the least likely.”
“According to census data, 17 percent of workers car pool in Mesa, 14 percent in Chandler, 13 percent in Gilbert, 9 percent in Tempe and 8 percent in Scottsdale.”
